Lydia Tien works to develop and encourage future teachers

Lydia Tien, a chemistry faculty member in her first year at MCC, has written an article entitled "Promoting the Scholarship of Teaching" which appears in the Fall/Winter 2003 issue of Progressions: Peer Led Team Learning. Prof. Tien and coauthor Jack Kampmeier of the University of Rochester are nationally recognized leaders in the NSF-funded Peer Led Team Learning (PLTL) project, and discuss how the project develops leadership skills and encourages students to enter the teaching profession. Tien and Kampmeier have led one of the first and most highly regarded PLTL programs in chemistry at the U of R. Tien is continuing her work on PLTL and is working with chemistry and biology faculty to use PLTL to promote more effective student learning at MCC.
