Financial Aid Staff Presentations at 2024 NYSFAAA Conference
At the 2024 New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA) Conference held October 28 to 31 in Buffalo, NY, several financial aid staff members conducted presentations.
Jeffrey Ferrara & Meryll Pentz co-presented a session titled, How Monroe Community College Provides Emergency Assistance, where attendees learned about MCC’s process of providing emergency assistance to students, utilizing on-demand gift cards, check payments, and other purchases for students. They further explained the MCC Assist process that requires a meeting with a financial aid advisor, completing a dynamic form, recording in Banner, and other criteria. As this process has evolved over the years, they were able to share some of their trials and tribulations to schools looking to provide a similar resource for their students.
Lori Bartkovich presented a conference session titled, Navigating Military Education Benefits. Her workshop focused on military educational benefits, how these benefits work or do not work with financial aid, and how to properly advise course schedules to optimize VA/Financial Aid eligibility (predominately coming from a Community College perspective).
