On March 18th, MCC’s Support Staff Professional Committee announced that they were collecting school supplies for an elementary school in the Rochester City School District. The announcement was made at a workshop entitled “It's All About Students - How Can Support Staff Positively Impact a Student’s College Experience?” presented by Richard Ryther and Kimberley Collins. “That program was about MCC students,” said Carol Wilkinson, executive secretary in the ETS vice president’s office. “However, we thought it a good lead-in to a school supply drive for elementary school students."
It didn’t take long for the College community to respond. Box upon box filled with pencils, notebooks, backpacks, calculators and crayons filled a corner of Carol’s office.
And the donations just kept coming. Paper, books, scissors and cash came from Brighton, DCC, ATC, PSTC -- from support staff, faculty, administrators and retirees.
On Wednesday, April 23, committee representatives arrived at The Henry Lomb School #20 located on Oakman Street off of Clinton Avenue armed with 24 fully packed paper boxes. It was Administrative Assistants Day. On a day set aside to honor them, MCC support staff members were helping others.
