John’s dissertation is entitled “A Tale of Two Americas: The Grit, the Times, and the War in Vietnam from 1963 to 1968.” His research included the first scholarly review of the Grit newspaper, a country weekly paper that was purchased by 1.5 million small-town U.S. residents in 1965 and read by nearly 7 million from those rural areas.
