ESOL Voices: Student Spotlight
Wilmer Tamat Semet
Wilmer Tamat Semet is from an indigenous community in Guatemala. He came to Rochester five years ago to live with a foster care family. After studying at a Rochester area high school, Wilmer celebrated his graduation with his uncle present to witness his achievement. Currently, Wilmer is enrolled at MCC and preparing for the automotive technology program. As Wilmer reflects on his journey, he points out that despite the challenges of living with a new family and learning two new languages (Spanish and English), it has been worth the sacrifice. Read Wilmer's story.
ESOL Voices is a collection of stories written by ESOL students at Monroe Community College. This publication highlights our MCC students who come from all over the world. Look for new stories in the Tribune. Search for older stories on our Omeka page maintained by librarian Dax Parasnis-Samar. We hope you enjoy these stories as much as we do.
