Health Initiatives Happening in November 2010

  • November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month.  The Epilepsy Foundation is launching a nationwide campaign to make 1 million Americans seizure smart this November.  We need you to help the National Epilepsy Foundation spread the word! Visit the website HYPERLINK "https://www.getseizuresmart.org"  to view a video and take a Get Seizure Smart! quiz.  By taking the quiz or watching the video, a person can learn about seizure recognition and first aid. By distributing the quiz in your community, or promoting it online, you can help make 1 million Americans seizure smart this November.  Take the quiz and see how much you know about epilepsy.
  • November 18 is also The Great American Smoke Out.  If you smoke cigarettes or know someone that does, you may want to go to HYPERLINK "https://www.nysmokefree.com" or call 1-866-697-8487. Did you know that: 1. Cigarettes are the leading cause of death in the US? 2. Smokers will die an average of 13-14 years earlier than non-smokers?
  • November is also the time of year to get a flu shot if you haven’t already received one. Student Health Services is continuing to offer flu shots until supplies run out: Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.in Building 3-165. More information on preventing the flu, differences between the flu and a cold, and treatments for the flu may be found at HYPERLINK "https://www.cdc.gov/flu" and at Student Health Services.
Check out the information outside Student Health Services and around campus on quitting smoking and preventing and treating the flu.  Student Health Services is located in Building 3-165.

Here’s to finishing the semester Healthy, Smoke free and without the Flu!
