The English Department is accepting entries now for its 37th annual Writing Contest for the following essays.
* Rice Award for Best Essay- An essay in any style, excluding literary analyses or explication (not to exceed 2000 words).
* Cooney Award for Best Literary Essay- Essay that explicates one or more works of literature (not to exceed 2000 words).
* Cloos-Susskind Award for Best Poem- Single poem (not to exceed 60 lines).
* Langlois Award for Best short Fiction- (not to exceed 3000 words).
* McMurray Award for Best Philosophical Essay (not to exceed 2000 words).
Winners receive $150 cash prize, college wide recognition, and recognition at awards ceremony.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
-- Only Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 "for credit" MCC students may enter.
-- All submissions must be accompanied by the English Philosophy Department Award Entry Form, located in the English --
Department Office 5-532.
-- All submissions must be submitted in two forms, hard copy and on disk in Microsoft Word,
-- All submissions must be typed, double spaced on 8 1/2 by 11 paper, free of markings, and free of grammatical and
mechanical errors.
-- Currently accepting submissions until 12:00 PM April 4, 2008.
-- Manuscripts and completed entry form must be left on 5-532 on the MCC Brighton Campus or in room 4222 on the Damon
Campus.
-- Winners will be announced by May 1st.
-- Materials submitted must be original and previously unpublished in any college publications.
