Upcoming Mandatory Title VI Training
SUNY has mandated that all employees—full-time, part-time, and adjuncts—complete Title VI compliance training by September 30, 2024. Since this new mandated training has an earlier completion deadline than our annual compliance training, it will be launched this week.
What You Need to Know:
This mandatory Title VI training is in addition to the annual compliance trainings that cover the following Human Resources policies:
- Keeping Children Safe on Campus
- Workplace Violence Response and Prevention
- Sexual Harassment Prevention & Response.
Moving forward, Title VI training will be combined with these trainings for completion by our new hires upon hire and will be included within the annual training requirements for current employees following this academic year.
Summary of Title VI mandatory compliance training:
- Title VI prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.
- Title VI mandates that no person shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
- Outlines how employees identify discrimination
- Outlines how employees report Title VI violations, along with a review of examples
- This training includes a knowledge check/quiz with five questions – employees must get 70% correct to pass, otherwise they need to retake until they pass.
- Timeline to complete: Approximately 30 minutes
- Full completion is required for all employees – including full-time, part-time and adjuncts
We are in the process of finalizing the upload of the Title VI training module into Brightspace. Later this week, we’ll share another article with a direct link to the training.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this important requirement. Your participation is crucial to ensuring that we maintain a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
