MCC Team Implements AI Curriculum into Physical Geography through SUNY IITG Project

A SUNY Innovative Instructional Technology Grant (IITG) project developed new curriculum that integrated generative artificial intelligence (AI) into an introductory science and social work course. The activities developed helped students develop digital AI literacy skills, critical workforce skills.

MCC’s team explored and developed six AI exercises into an introductory science course, specifically Physical Geography I (GEG 101). The six new exercises were implemented in online Physical Geography I spring of 2025. Students that complete the exercises earned a digital badge, demonstrating that they know how to ethically use generative artificial intelligence (AI) for honing study skills, developing text prompts, image creation, fact checking, as well as video creation.

University of Buffalo’s team along with Principal Investigator Jonathon Little developed activities tied to the use of AI and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in a social work course.

You can learn more about the project by visiting the web page for Using AI effectively in Introductory Science and Social Science Courses.

The project team presented at the SUNY CIT conference on May 21, 2025.
