AAWCC Announces Service Projects for This Year


The Monroe Community College chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) is “dedicated to changing women’s lives through leadership and education, thus strengthening our colleges and communities” according to its mission statement.

Yesterday, you read about the AAWCC programs that are planned for this year. Today, the service projects are outlined.

The AAWCC service projects for the year follow. To join the Service Committee, please contact Vilma Morrow in DCC Student Services.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Sunday, October 1, 10 am at Frontier Field. This event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and has already occurred for this year.

“Done in a Day” project, Saturday, November 4, at Ronald McDonald House. Open to all AAWCC members (time to join!)

Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, November 13-17. Donations accepted at all MCC campuses. Benefits Wilson Commencement Park.

Book Drive, December 1-14. Donations accepted at MCC campuses. Benefits the Rochester City School District.

Go Red Day, Friday, February 9th. Brighton and Damon Campuses. Benefits the American Heart Association.

Suitcase Drive, March 16-23. Donations accepted at all MCC campuses. To benefit foster children. Final details still pending.

Take Your Daughters & Sons to Work Day, Thursday, April 26. Brighton & Damon campuses. Ms. Foundation for Women.

School Supply Drive, Thursday, April 26, in conjunction with the above. Benefits the Rochester City School District.
