Interim President Selection Process: Next Steps

Dear MCC Community,

We have no doubt interim president candidates, Dr. Cynthia E. Azari and Dr. Katherine P. Douglas, were genuinely impressed by the inspiring students, faculty and staff they met during their visit to MCC last week. The candidates' experiences were so enjoyable and the visit process flowed seamlessly thanks to support from Campus Events, Institutional Research, Computing and Information Technology, Instructional Technologies, Public Safety and others, especially MCC Hospitality students and Sodexo who prepared meals and refreshments throughout the visit. Thank you all for helping ensure the candidates' first impressions of MCC were positive, confirming the strong sense of community and student-focus for which the College is widely known.

Thank you also to those who welcomed the candidates to campus, attended receptions, participated in group interviews and took the time to provide feedback via the online surveys. Last Thursday and Friday, MCC Trustees reviewed the survey responses and determined the candidate who will best serve the College in the interim president role during the upcoming year. The Board's recommendation was sent to SUNY Chancellor Dr. Kristina M. Johnson on Friday for consideration.

SUNY's process for confirming an interim president requires the utmost level of respect and confidentiality. That is why, at this time, the name of the recommended candidate will not be disclosed until the SUNY Board of Trustees' meeting on January 28-29, 2020. Immediately following the SUNY Trustees' vote on and appointment of MCC's interim president, the College will share the news with students, employees and external stakeholders.

If you have questions about SUNY's interim president appointment process, please contact Kristin Lowe (Human Resources) or Clayton Jones (Government and Community Relations).

On behalf of the MCC Board of Trustees, thank you for your dedication to MCC students and the important role you play in shaping MCC's future. We wish you and your family the best this holiday season has to offer and look forward to launching our search for MCC's next, permanent president in the upcoming year.
