New York State Completion Day is happening on Wednesday, October 3rd in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center Atrium from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.!
Completion Day is the day that 37 State University of New York (SUNY) and City University of New York (CUNY) community colleges have set aside to send a simple message: Students who complete an associate degree have better prospects for jobs, scholarships and transfer to four-year schools.
Come hear dynamic speaker Isa Adney’s advice on making the most of community college at 1:00 p.m., in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center Atrium. There will be a question and answer session with Isa after her speech. Isa’s plan to attend a private college ended with her brothers’ mounting medical bills. She started community college in tears but found her stride with the help of professors and friends. Upon graduation, she won an $110,000 scholarship that paid for her bachelors and masters degrees.
Students will be able to pledge to complete their associate’s degree, which enters them for a chance to win an iPad, Beat Headphones, and various gift cards to places on campus beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center Atrium. Participants will also be able to win Completion Day t-shirts and Isa Adney’s book Community College Success by taking part in the trivia game as well as signing pledges. During this time students will be encouraged to design a keepsake bookmark as a reminder of their commitment. There will be popcorn served throughout the day with a cake celebration around 2:00 p.m. marking the end of Isa Adney’s speech and celebrating the students who pledged.
We would also like to ask faculty, professors, and other staff around the campus to wear their alma mater apparel on Wednesday so that students will feel free to ask questions about their schools.
