MCC Celebrates National Voter Registration Day- 9/25/12

The Democracy Committee at MCC (TDC@MCC) is proud to announce National Voter Registration Day

On September 25, 2012, tens of thousands of voters will celebrate the inauguration of a new holiday---National Voter Registration Day (NVRD)--- in a massive effort to register voters in all 50 states before Election Day.  The theme for NVRD is simple:  Register in September, make it count in November.  The overarching goal of the project is to drive voter registration and civic engagement.  Monroe Community College is proud to be a National Voter Registration Day partner, and will be strengthening and serving our community at the following events:

Damon City Campus

National Voter Registration Day will be held in the atrium of the 4th floor between 10:00-12:30.  Come register to vote and celebrate this new holiday!

Brighton Campus

Dr. Joan Mandle, Executive Director of Democracy Matters, will be speaking on the topic, “Who Owns Democracy?” Additionally, Charles Perreaud, our Monroe County Jury Commissioner, will present yet another way that we can engage civically. We will also announce a PSA contest and upcoming events as we Engage the 2012 Election. This event will be held in the Forum from 12:30-1:30.  This will not be video-streamed but will be videotaped and made available for future use.

NVRD’s impact will be driven by engaged citizens who are stepping up to play an important role in their communities by driving attention and action around voter registration, and to make this civic duty part of an everyday conversation.  Are you willing to step up?  Join us at one or both of these events!

This event is sponsored by The Democracy Commitment at MCC (TDC@MCC), Office of Campus Life and Leadership Development, and Diversity and Community Studies.
