Congratulations to MCC Culinary student, Brent Shallenberger, on Winning Student Chef-of-the-Year!
Rochester area culinary students came together on Monday, March 10th, to compete for the title of the American Culinary Federation Rochester chapter (ACFR) Student-Chef-of-the Year. The competing participants were from the Monroe Community College Culinary Arts program, the Food Link Culinary Career Fellowship program and the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Culinary program. Each student had 1-hour 30-minutes to prepare a restaurant quality meal, working with a market basket of produce and starches, and a mystery protein that was revealed just before cooking started. Brent’s winning dish featured roast pork tenderloin with a white wine sauce, sautéed lemon butter shrimp, served with parmesan and herb risotto, and grilled asparagus. Brent received an engraved chef’s knife, a one-year American Culinary Federation national membership, an engraved medal. He will be celebrated at the annual Rochester Chef-of-the-Year dinner in April.
