Three MCC Mathematics Scholars Selected as NYSMATYC Scholarship Winners

The Scholarship Committee of the New York State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges has selected three MCC students as scholarship winners, one of whom is honored with one of the top awards!  The students are:

Sonya Travers: $1000, Dan Dodway Memorial Award for Excellence in Mathematics Education
Linda R. Thompson: $300
Jay M. Polatoff: $250

Ten students overall were selected as award winners from applicants across the state.  The scholarship applicants needed to be transferring to a four-year college to continue pursuing either mathematics or a related major, have at least a 3.5 G.P.A. in mathematics courses, at least a 3.3 G.P.A. overall, and have completed at least one full year of calculus or higher mathematics.

The scholarship winners will be honored at the awards dinner at the NYSMATYC Annual Conference on Friday, April 4 at the Holiday Inn, in Suffern, NY.  A total of $6000 will be given out for NYSMATYC scholarships this year.

We should all be proud to have such great students here at MCC.  Thanks to those that have taught these students, encouraged them along the way, and to those that wrote recommendation letters.
