MORE Book Buddies Needed for "If All of Rochester Read..." Program

MORE Book Buddies Needed for “If All of Rochester Read…” Program

Writers & Books has chosen Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits by Laila Lalami as the 2008 “Rochester Reads” selection. Approximately twenty MCC staff and faculty have volunteered to be a Book Buddy to my Introduction to Literature class that has 36 people enrolled. To make this a memorable reading experience for MCC students, I need 16 more faculty and staff volunteers to be Book Buddies.

Once I have a Book Buddy for each of my students, I will e-mail my syllabus to everyone, send posters to all Book Buddies and provide help guides to all faculty and staff enrolled in the program. Readers Guides, calendars of events and posters are pending Writers & Books’ timeline. The MCC Bookstore says that copies of “Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits” will be available by Friday, February 15, 2008. Writers & Books currently has copies for sale. My class will begin to read the book by the second week in March.

A luncheon hosted by the Visiting Scholars Series will occur on Wednesday, March 26th at noon in the Forum. MCC will host Laila Lalami on Friday, March 28th at noon in Monroe A and B. There will be a variety of activities centered on the novel’s themes throughout the Campus during March. Watch the Tribune for more announcements.

Don’t hesitate to call me at x3303 or email epierce@monroecc.edu with any questions. I look forward to working with you to provide this experience for our students.
