ROCrun Raises Over $30,000 for the Horizons at MCC Community Partnership Program

The First annual ROCrun for Summer Learning was held on the MCC campus on Saturday, June 20, 2015.  Over 370 participants, as well as many volunteers joined in the event. The ROCrun brought families together in support of summerLEAP programs by offering a 5k and 1k run. This event benefits the children of Rochester through the high quality summer learning opportunities of the Horizons Student Enrichment Program. Kristen Love assisted in the coordination of the many volunteers who contributed to the success of this fundraiser and led the race with her family by her side.

Horizons at MCC is a six-week, summer enrichment program that provides an opportunity for early academic intervention in grades K through 5, led by Clayton Jones.   Housing the Horizons program at MCC allows students, beginning as kindergartners, to see themselves in college and inspire their interest in learning.  Since the program began in 2011, it continues to see a high percentage of gains in literacy, attendance and academic retention. The “ROCrun” was a tremendous success, raising over $30,000 for the Horizons Program.
