The Facilities Master Plan

Soon MCC will begin the exciting process of creating its 2020-2025 Facilities Master Plan (FMP). Working in conjunction with the nationally recognized campus master planning and design firm, SmithGroup, our goal is to provide the College with a flexible framework to make both long-term and day-to-day decisions in regard to the development of MCC campuses. MCC will use the FMP to submit five-year capital improvement programs to SUNY and Monroe County, a requirement of both entities. The new plan will also include long-range planning for the future years 2025-2035.

In addition to addressing the need to provide modern, supportive and inspiring environments for our students and facilities-based needs such as deferred maintenance, utility infrastructure, energy usage and accessibility, other key factors that will be considered during the master planning process include:

  • Adaptability of existing space to new programs and uses
  • Aligning programs across multiple campuses
  • Effective optimization of space including an evaluation of current rental space
  • Development and exploration of new partnerships and funding models
  • MCC's role in regional economic development
  • Cost effectiveness
  • Demographic shifts
  • Declining enrollment
  • SUNY and County goals and initiatives

A cross-divisional steering committee comprised of members of the Space Planning and Management Committee, the Director of Institutional Planning, and others will lead the project. Our consultants, SmithGroup, will be engaging stakeholder groups from all over the College during its data gathering and analysis phase. SmithGroup will also perform a thorough assessment of existing facilities and infrastructure before developing frameworks and alternatives that will ultimately evolve into a comprehensive and adaptive facilities master plan that aligns MCC's physical resources with the College's Strategic Plan. This new plan will provide a framework flexible enough to accommodate ever changing circumstances and unforeseeable conditions.

The existing FMP will be reassessed as part of this process. Projects that are currently in the County's Capital Improvement Program are expected to move forward as planned. Projects that have not yet been initiated will be reevaluated and incorporated into the new plan as appropriate.

Sub-consultants working with SmithGroup include:

  • Paulien & Associates
  • Architectural Resources
  • M/E Engineering
  • Ravi Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C.
  • The Pike Company
