Passing of Professor Emeritus Eldon F. Bock


The college mourns the passing of Professor Emeritus Eldon F. Bock on Feb. 10, 2009 at the age of 80. Mr. Bock passed away at his home in Pittsford. Funeral services were held on Feb. 14.He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor and his brother Merlyn. He is survived by his brother Marcus, nieces, nephews and friends.

Having earned a master’s degree from Bowling Green University (Ohio) and an MBA degree from Harvard University, Mr. Bock began his career at MCC in 1968 as an associate professor under President LeRoy V. Good. Prior to MCC, he worked for the Strom-Carlson Division of General Dynamics and Marine Midland Trust. He taught at both St. John Fisher College and Rochester Institute of Technology before joining MCC’s Business Administration/Economics Department.

He taught 11 different business subjects, under the leadership of three college presidents, during his 20-year career at MCC. His specialties included accounting, corporate finance and production control. In 1975 he developed a pilot course for personal investing. He also served on the college’s long range planning and budgeting control committees. He is remembered as a dedicated professor who maintained excellent rapport with students and faculty members. Students credited him with preparing them well for transfer into four-year business degree programs. He retired from the college in June 1988.
