Summer Student Educational Planner (SEP) Project

We want to thank the faculty and staff who spent time using the DegreeWorks Student Educational Planner (SEP) this summer.  SEP is a tool within DegreeWorks that documents the students entire academic plan by term.  The following faculty participated in training, outreach to advisees, creating plans in SEP, and communicating to students about their plan.

  • Jann Avery, Mathematics
  • Eric Berg, ESOL/Transitional Studies
  • Kathleen Borbee, Business Administration/Economics
  • Mary Ewanechko, Business Administration/Economics
  • Marisol Galarza-Ruiz, World Languages and Cultures
  • Rebecca Griffin, Hospitality
  • Dawn Murphy, Visual and Performing Arts
  • Kelly Nagle, Law and Criminal Justice
  • Breana Noble, Nursing
  • John Striebich, Business Administration/Economics

The support available to the faculty included live and recorded trainings, templates, student communication plans, and open zoom hours.  I want to thank the team who provided training and support for the project.

  • Marybeth Donnelly, Curriculum and Program Development
  • Amanda Rampe-Eggleston, Schools
  • Donna Burke, ESOL/Transitional Studies
  • Renee Dimino, ESOL/Transitional Studies
  • Gary Johnson, Schools/Pathways
  • Becky Babcock, School of Health Science & Physical Wellness
  • Amy Coon, School of Community Engagement & Development
  • Krista Hauschild, School of STEM

The SEP tool helps the student, advisor, and any other college staff understand the student’s future registration plans.  For example, if the primary advisor is out and a Specialist or a secondary advisor is working with the student, they can clearly see the previous plan.  It helps students see how long their degree will take, and with more widespread use we would be able to support master schedule planning by pulling data on the number of students who plan to take a course in a given term.  One additional great feature is that the plan is linked to College Scheduler so students can add courses from their SEP plan for registration with a click of a button!

The faculty also provided important feedback about challenges with the system to help us improve the process, training, and support for all advisors.  We continue to look for ways to increase the use of the tool.  If you have any feedback about the tool at any time or would like training and support materials, please reach out to Marybeth Donnelly at mdonnelly12@monroecc.edu.
