Community Fridays for a Cause - February 6, 2015

Our next Community Fridays for a Cause is Friday, February 6, 2015.

The MCC Peer Mentor Food Closet, located in Building 3, Room 129, the Orientation/FYE Office and on the Damon City Campus Student Services Front Desk, provides packaged food, such as soups, crackers, granola bars, mac and cheese, oatmeal, applesauce, Ramen noodles, tuna, Jello, puddings, etc. (nothing needing refrigeration) to MCC students who have no food and no money to buy food and are in need of temporary assistance by way of an occasional snack or meal.   The need for this service has always been greater than the food kept on the shelves.  The Support Staff Professional Development Committee and Planning Council has provided food donations for the past few years, keeping the Food Closet open and available to assist our students.

Hundreds of students have been served through the Food Closet over the years, sometimes providing a day’s worth of meals or snacks, and sometimes providing meals and snacks for a student and their children.  The Food Closet is not a long-term solution, but a source of occasional nourishment.

Please show your support by making a generous donation in exchange for the opportunity to dress casually.  Casual dress can be defined in a variety of ways, please check with your department leadership to define parameters acceptable for your office.  This Friday, in support of the American Heart Association’s GoRed for Women Campaign, we encourage you to wear RED and join AAWCC and the Wellness Council in the Brighton Campus Atrium at noon for their annual photo and celebration.

Donations for the Food Closet will be collected in each department and donation envelopes are being delivered.  All checks should be made out to “MCC Association” with a notation in the memo section stating “food closet.”  Please bring the donation envelopes to Jodee Biller in the Controller’s Office, 6-110 by 4:00 pm on Friday.  If you are not located at the Brighton Campus, please call ext. 2104 to make arrangements for the envelopes to be delivered to the Brighton Campus.

Thank you in advance for your support!
