MCC Daily Tribune

President's Wednesday Message

As we begin this new academic year, MCC launches a new service: Trib411. A one-stop information center for all student questions, Trib411 is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

  • All day and night, students can access the Trib411 chatbot on the web, input their questions about Admissions, Advising & Transfer, Financial Aid, and Registration & Records in English or in Spanish. Trib411 pops up on the screen, ready to assist. The system "learns" from the questions asked, so the more questions students (and you) submit, the more accurate the answers will be. If the Trib411 chatbot is still learning the best response, it will offer multiple answers from which the user can select. If it doesn't know the answer at all, it will offer to connect the student to someone who can help.

  • MCC also has redesigned the information desk on the Brighton Campus as Trib411 Headquarters. Staffed by some very inspiring First Year Experience Peer Navigators, the Trib411 desks are open Monday to Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm, Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 9 am to noon. The Peer Navigators stand ready to help students and visitors with directions and questions. Beginning September 15, the information desk at the Downtown Campus will be the home of the Downtown Campus Trib411 staff.

  • Finally, these same Peer Navigators are the friendly and informative faces, voices, texters, and emailers behind the Trib411 phone, text and email accounts. Anyone calling or texting 585-292-2411 will reach a student leader prepared either to answer the most common questions or connect the caller/texter to a staff member who can answer more complicated questions. Same for the new trib411@monroecc.edu email account.

The goal of the new Trib411 service is simple: to provide a one-stop shop for students with questions. Time is such a valuable resource for them. MCC is a big place, and it's easy for students to get lost in trying to find answers to even the most basic of questions. Trib411 makes finding answers easier than ever. The system also helps us learn from our students and understand where we can improve in communication and organization. It's all part of helping our students succeed.

I hope you will share information about Trib411 with your students and take some time to try out the system yourself. Please share via the blog your comments and other ideas that support student success.
