Nominations Still Open for Legacy Award Honors!

The Professional Development Committee of the Faculty-Senate is looking for a few very special new retirees from our MCC Faculty and Staff who would like to share with their colleagues special remembrances and views obtained through their MCC career experiences. The Legacy Lecture Program is open to all MCC employees who are about to retire or have retired since January 1st 2011. Please nominate a friend, a colleague, a professor, a staff member or an acquaintance who you feel fits any number of our criteria as outlined below. Please note: it is not required that a nominee fit all of these criteria. Also note: self-nominations are acceptable and welcomed, too. Please submit a short ( no more than 350 words) letter of recommendation to the Legacy Lecture Program Committee via email thru the Faculty Senate Professional Development Committee by Friday, February 10th, 2012. The letter should address two points. First, why is this person being nominated? And secondly, what would you like them to discuss in their 15-20 minute lecture/presentation? We’ll take it from there.

All emails should be sent to Tom Gilbert ("mailto:cgilbert@monroecc.edu") the chair of Senate Legacy Program for the Professional Development Committee with copies to Carmen Powers ("mailto:cpowers@monroecc.edu") and Alberta Lee ("mailto:alee@monroecc.edu").

CRITERIA TO CONSIDER FOR LEGACY LECTURE PROGRAM CANDIDATES

Candidate should be of long service to MCC and should be actually retiring, not moving on into other college administrative or teaching assignment.

Candidate must be available on Saturday April 28th, 2012 ( Scholar’s Day Weekend) to share their remembrances.

Candidate ideally may be recommended by peers (or potentially students) as an outstanding teacher, mentor, advisor, leader to peers and students. He or She is approachable, and possibly sought out as a problem solver.

Candidate are likely to have a long history of serving MCC as a leader in his/her field/department/college community. If faculty, they may be seen as subject matter experts in their discipline.

Candidates may have demonstrated talent as an excellent communicator or skilled lecturer. They are fun/interesting to listen to and have the ability to get across a message without dwelling on the fog. Most of all, the candidates should have a real message to communicate (not just a travelogue of their careers)

Candidate should be recognized as a skilled contributor to MCC in many roles and in many circumstances i.e. – one who has had true and potentially lasting impact on the MCC community over the years. There are many ways to contribute. Sometimes it is the small but consistent day to day kindnesses and hard work that make our culture so rich.
