MCC Public Safety Department is always preparing for your safety

MCC Public Safety Department is here 24/7 with the goal of keeping our entire campus community safe.   Many of these efforts are proactive in nature, designed to ensure effective response to any critical incident.  Some of the recent trainings, exercises, and events that Public Safety has participated in are:

Public Safety:

  • Crisis intervention Training – Campus Peace Officers received the tools and knowledge necessary to assist individuals experiencing emotional or mental health crisis.
  • Active Threat training exercise in December held in collaboration with Brighton Police Department and Monroe County Office of the Sheriff.
  • Campus Peace Officers completed a two-day Reality-Based Active Threat Training at the Public Safety Training Facility.
  • Campus Peace Officers are currently attending the Monroe County In-Service Training on Rescue Task Force (bringing EMS personnel into cleared areas to treat victims).
  • Security Guards attended the NYS mandated annual recertification course which includes de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques, and incident/scene assessment.
  • Peace Officers and Guards are certified in CPR and AED.

Office of Emergency Management:

  • Lock down training sessions to be conducted at ATC, Brighton, and Downtown Campuses.
  • Loudspeaker testing will be conducted.
  • Campus Emergency Operations plan is regularly updated.

Communications:

  • A new updated Dispatch radio console has been purchased, and is currently being installed.
  • Dispatchers completed the APCO Active Shooter Incidents for Public Safety Communications training.

Community Partnerships:

  • Rochester Threat Advisory Committee (ROCTAC).  ROCTAC is an active partnership of corporations, schools, and colleges, social service agencies, mental health professionals, and local and federal law enforcement forged to prevent targeted violence in Monroe County.
  • Monroe County Schools and Community Safety Consortium.  This consortium works to identify community threats with a focus on high schools and colleges.
  • Area College & University Directors’ meeting.  Discusses safety issues common to local area campuses.

As always, we ask the MCC community to be on the lookout for suspicious activity, and notify Public Safety immediately at 585-292-2911 (or X2911 on an internal phone) if you suspect anything out of the ordinary. Please feel free to also reach out with any questions or concerns, and thank you for playing your role in keeping our campus community safe.
