Summer Machining Program, Student Participants Highlighted
July 28 marked the celebration of the Summer Advanced Manufacturing Experience (SAME) participants' completion of this program, now in its sixth year. Fifteen high school students--including the most young women since the program began--spent three weeks of their summer learning about precision machining at WEMOCO and BOCES 1 and earning MCC credits. In partnership with the Finger Lakes Advanced Manufacturers' Enterprise (FAME), SAME is aimed at building the pipeline of manufacturing workers.
WHEC-TV (Channel 10) promoted the SAME program in its coverage focusing on manufacturing jobs available in the Rochester region. The reporter interviewed Bob Lasch, program coordinator at MCC's Applied Technologies Center, and program participant Emily Russell.
