National Philanthropy Day Celebrates 22nd Anniversary

According to the Association of Fundraising Professionals, National Philanthropy Day® is the special day set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives, our communities and our world. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of this special day.

Why do we celebrate philanthropy? Consider the impact of the charitable sector and the increasing role it plays in our society and countries around the world:

* Billions of dollars are given every year.
* Millions of programs and services are offered.
* Individuals connect to causes and to each other.
* Civic participation helps to improve quality of life for all people.

In the United States alone, there are more than 1 million charitable organizations, and last year Americans gave approximately $295 billion to charitable causes (according to Giving USA).

The Monroe Community College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation through which philanthropists and volunteers show their support of Monroe Community College and its students. Members of the MCC Foundation staff and directors of the MCC Foundation board are recognized nationally and locally as leaders in building philanthropy towards public higher education and, especially, community colleges.
