February Wellness Programs to Reduce Stress, Increase Activity and Eat Healthy - - RSVP Today!

The Wellness Council is celebrating American Heart Month by providing programs and initiatives to help us recommit to improving our health and continuing the fight against heart disease.  One of our initiatives is the “Taking the Stairs Campaign.”

Taking the stairs is one more way to become more physically active and we are asking that MCC employees consider taking the stairs as an alternative to the elevator.  Here are some interesting facts about taking the stairs:

*         Even two flights of stairs climbed per day can lead to six pounds of weight loss over one year.

*         It is a time saver.  Your health is not the only thing that benefits from climbing the stairs. It can also save you a great amount of time. It's sometimes much faster to take the stairs, especially during peak times when elevators take a long time to arrive on the floor of your location.

*         Stair climbing is a 'green' activity, the only energy source used is what is stored in our bodies.... good for you and the environment! It is good for the environment because it lessens energy consumption.

*         Physical activities like stair climbing are a great way to cope with stress.

Watch the elevators and stairwells for the “Take the Stairs” poster campaign for more interesting and fun facts!

Learn more about the February heart healthy wellness programs in the attached flyer.  Highlights include: Go RED for Women, NYS Beef Council cooking demo, a video viewing party and more!

Remember change happens one step at a time; we’ll see you on the stairs!
