MCC Daily Tribune

President's Wednesday Message

As we move into the holiday season, the spirit of giving is ever-present at MCC. The Daily Tribune fills with announcements of opportunities to help others in need.

Student clubs and organizations, departments, and offices hold drives for food, coats, mittens, and toys and gifts for children and families. Some volunteer to serve meals in local shelters; others collect personal and hygiene items such as diapers and toiletries. And, of course, MCC's DWIGHT (Doing What is Good and Healthy Together) is open to accept donations of food that will assure students and their families are supported throughout the holiday breaks.

This year, the power of giving has taken on new meaning, with the MCC Foundation recently announcing the successful completion of its Every Bright Future Needs a Strong Foundation campaign. Thanks to the generosity of community members and many of you, the Foundation is able to provide the gift of education to more and more MCC students each year. For the past few years, it has annually transferred over $1.4 million in support for scholarships and much needed programs like Dreamkeepers emergency aid and Single Stop at MCC services.

Whether you respond to the call to give a pair of mittens to stave off the cold, canned goods to make a meal, a child's favorite toy to bring holiday joy, or scholarship support to help students achieve their college dreams--you are making a difference in this and every season. Winston Churchill once observed, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Thank you for always embracing the spirit of giving!

How has MCC's spirit of giving inspired you? Please share your thoughts and ideas on the blog.
