November Global Education Events and Programs Begin on Wednesday, Nov. 1

Please print, share, and remember to attend any or all of these November Global Education Events and Programs. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to join all of these programs.  

Wednesday, Nov 1: Open Interfaith Hour in Monroe AB 

  • 12 to 1 pm Interfaith Hour in Monroe AB 
    This time can be used for individual prayer, meditation, and reflection during this difficult time globally. Bring a journal, drawing materials, blanket, or pillow for your reflection and comfort. Tea lights will be available to write messages of peace, hope, and love. Attend for as long or as little as you want or need. This will be a silent event.  

Friday, Nov 3:  Book Talk with Achut Deng and Keely Hutton

  • 1 to 1:50 pm in Room 8-100 
    Achut Deng and Keely Hutton will discuss their book, Don’t Look Back: A Memoir of War, Survival and My Journey from Sudan to America. Books will be available for purchase. 

Wednesday, Nov 8:  Deliberative Dialogue on Climate Change

  • 11:45 am to 1 pm in Monroe B 
    Deliberative Dialogue: Local Impacts of Climate Change 

Thursday, Nov 9: Guest Lecturer from Cornell University on Globalization in the Americas

  • 12:30 to 1:45 pm in Room 9-173 
    Martin Majia, Visiting Scholar, will speak on Globalization in the Americas: post Washington Consensus  

Friday, Nov 10: Diwali Celebration with Global Union 

  • 11:30 to 1:30 pm in Terrace B on the Brighton Campus 
    Decorate a candle holder and celebrate this light holiday with students from Global Union 

Monday, Nov 13: Two Events Today to kick off International Education Week and Geography Awareness Week 

  • Speed Travel on the Downtown Campus, 2nd Floor Terrace, from 11 am to Noon.  ESOL students share their countries of origin in a speed dating format.  

  • Geographer, Dr. Joseph Kerski on Modern GIS tools to explore Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from 11 am to 2 pm. Program includes a lecture, lunch, and hands on workshop. Hosting by MCC's Mapping Club.

Tuesday, Nov 14:  Two Events Today 

  • Speed Travel on the Brighton Campus, 2nd Floor Terrace, from 11 am to Noon.  ESOL students share their countries of origin in a speed dating format. 

  • LGBTQ+ Identities in Study Abroad Virtual Event 1 to 2 pm. Register online for the LBGTQ + webinar.

Wednesday, Nov 15:  International Education Week Keynote Panel - Writers from the African diaspora

  • Monroe B from 12 to 12:50 pm 
    Writers from the African diaspora share their work and experiences. 
    • Danielle Obisi-Orlu, Nigerian American Youth Poet Laureate of Allegheny County 
    • Chioma Iwunze, fiction writer specializing in African novels and American short fiction 
    • Chijioke Onah, research focus is ecological violence of toxic waste and pollutants in African and Black communities globally
