MCC, MCC Foundation Support the Success of East High Culinary Students

A group from MCC attended the East High School Iron Chef Competition on Friday, March 19, to support five top East High School culinary students battling for the title of Iron Chef. Daisy Martinez, author and Food Network star, was the featured guest of the evening and served as one of the judges. MCC President Anne M. Kress and other community leaders were put to work as “celebrity” sous chefs, including Mayor Bob Duffy, Superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard, East High Principal Anibal Soler and Salvatore’s Pizzeria founder Sal Fantauzzo.

Quanisha Robinson, who earned the grand prize, will receive a full scholarship to attend MCC. The $2,900 scholarship was made possible by donors to the MCC Annual Fund at the Monroe Community College Foundation. In the photos below, DCC Executive Dean Emeterio "Pete" Otero congratulates Quanisha with a handshake and President Kress prepares a pie with East High School students.

The host of the event was Latinas Unidas, an organization that fosters opportunities for Hispanic women and girls in the Greater Rochester area, and East High School. Proceeds benefit the high school’s culinary arts program.
