Prayer Service for MCC Student

On the morning of April 13, 2011, LaShanda Armstrong, a young mother from Newburg, New York drove a minivan carrying her four young children off a Hudson River boat dock.  Fortunately, the oldest son, Lashaun managed to escape and swim to shore.   Unfortunately, by the time emergency personnel arrived it was too late to save the lives of LaShanda and her youngest children Landon Pierre age 5, Lance Pierre age 2 and 11 month old Laianna Pierre.

This devastating tragedy has touched a member of our MCC family…Diamond Gilliam.  Not only is Diamond is a MCC student and resident assistant in Canal Hall, but more importantly she is a young woman who has suffered a tremendous loss.  In a show of support a special program is scheduled to be held Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the Java Café located in the Brick Lounge.

With the untimely loss of her loved ones Diamond is also experiencing the unexpected financial burden of out of town travel to Newburg, New York to spend time with her family.  If you are interested in assisting with the expense, donations are being accepted in the Office of Student Life & Leadership Development located in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center – Building 3, Room 126C.  Please make your checks payable to the MCC Association, Inc.  Cards will also be available for those wishing to leave messages of sympathy for Diamond.
