Professor Emerita Jill Snyder, Office Technology

The College was notified that Professor Emerita Jill Snyder passed away peacefully on October 21, 2019. Her funeral service will be held today, November 1 at 11 a.m. at United Church, 11 Gibson Street, Canandaigua (obituary).

Mrs. Snyder was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and moved to Canandaigua prior to joining MCC in the early 1970s. She earned her master of education degree from Penn State and a bachelor's degree in business education from Susquehanna University. She began her teaching career at Williamsport Area Community College in 1967.

She joined MCC as an assistant professor of secretarial sciences in 1971. She taught typewriting, shorthand and machine transcription and helped students transition to word processing across various software platforms. She was promoted to associate professor in 1978 and then to professor in 1986.

Mrs. Snyder was a member of the National Business Education Association, SUNY Secretarial Educators, and the Monroe County Business Teachers Association. She contributed to a variety of committees and MCC Open House events. She found teaching at a community college rewarding because she thought community colleges benefit more people and, "for the most part, students want to be there."

She retired from MCC in 1988 having earned the rank of professor emerita.

Mrs. Snyder was an active member of the United Church. She enjoyed traveling, volunteering, reading and line dancing among other activities. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy B. Snyder, in 2002.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church Endowment Fund or The Salvation Army.
