MCC Photography Students And Tourism Students in Brazil Work On COIL Sustainability Collaboration
Students from Prof. Jasna Bogdanovska's Studio Photography class and Brazilian students from Prof. Nathália Körössy's Design of International Cooperation Projects for Development class at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil had a rare opportunity to collaborate together on joint projects during a 6-week collaboration this semester.
For this COIL module students focused on a local community in Brazil, looking closely at their problems related to sustainability in order to propose an environmental awareness campaign.
Each team picked one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to work on and the Brazilian students did field research at the Ilha de Deus community. The MCC and Brazilian students worked together in teams to analyze the research, determine the target audience and produce final ad campaigns.
The ad campaign below was created by MCC students Kristen Slater and Alaina Wainwright and the Brazilian students Everton Bruno, Lucas Mateus and Dayvidson Souto. The group chose to work on UN Sustainability goal number 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development). This advertising campaign was created to empower women to run their own business and produce fertilizer from the waste of "charru" mussel shells found everywhere on the island.
More examples of student work from this project will be on the display on the first floor of building 5 in the Fall 2019.
