MCC Honors Students Participate in National Humanities Conference

On Friday, October 14th, three of our Honors students traveled to this year's National Conference of the Community College Humanities Association in Cleveland, OH to present their research they completed in ENG 230, Mythology.

Please join me in congratulating the following students for their outstanding work:

Victoria Perez, “Masks in World Mythology: Protection, Strength, and Concealment”

Tiffany Rivera, “Water in Myths: Cleansing, Healing and the Life-Giving Connection to the Divine”

Rebecca Soriano, “The Blood of Christ and Everlasting Life: Color Psychology and Christian

Symbolism in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

According to their faculty sponsor, Scott Rudd, “Victoria’s, Tiffany’s, and Rebecca’s work has truly raised the bar for what our students can achieve with their writing and research. Though I have mentored students at MCC’s Scholars’ Day and various regional undergraduate research conferences, these are the first students I’ve worked with who have presented at a national professional conference. Several attendees told me how truly impressed they were with the quality of our students’ work and how they thought they were graduate students. MCC could not have had finer scholars and representatives at this conference. I am immensely proud of these wonderful students.”

Victoria, Tiffany, and Rebecca continue to work in the Honors Institute and with Scott Rudd and are already planning their next projects for Scholars’ Day, the Northeast Regional Honors Conference, and the Beacon Conference for Student-Scholars at Two Year Colleges. Stay tuned!
