MCC’s Office of Academic Assessment recently hosted the fall 2009 meeting of the Western New York Assessment Leaders (WNYAL) group. Over thirty-five guests from eighteen campuses across western New York attended, including visitors from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Jamestown Community College, Canisius College, and Corning Community College. MCC’s representatives included Interim Academic Services Vice President Kimberley Collins; Deans Frank Rinehart and Michael McDonough, Interim Dean, Charlotte Downing; and Director of Planning Valarie Avalone.
Michael Heel, Coordinator of Academic Assessment and Program Review at MCC opened the program with a presentation on assessing distance education. Also presenting were: Rosalind Lindner, Assistant. Provost, Buffalo State College, on institutional effectiveness and “closing the loop;” Sean McKitrick, Assistant Provost, SUNY Binghamton, covering “What Middle States Wants;” and Mimi Steadman, Director of Assessment, Daemen College, on building a New York assessment professionals’ network.
