Grants Awarded to Two MCC Upward Bound Programs

(Oldham, Todd, Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services)

The MCC Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science programs received STEM supplemental grant awards totaling $72,000 to provide hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics experiences during the 2019 summer program. This funding creates the opportunity for first generation, low-income Upward Bound students to work alongside college faculty in laboratory and field research settings. The summer 2019 STEM Experiential Activities schedule will include 13 disciplines with at least eight hours of activities for each. All of the disciplines are STEM focused with MCC offering credentials that will range from entry-level certificates to associate degrees. All activities will be hands-on and primarily take place at MCC locations including the Brighton and Downtown campuses, the Applied Technologies Center, and the Public Safety Training Facility. Geology and global information systems activities will be conducted in the field. Please contact Carmelita Brown-Wallace (ext. 6214) for further information.
