A film about sexual harassment and politics

On Thursday December 7, the History Film Series will show the film "Confirmation".

This film looks at the Senate confirmation hearings in 1991 of Clarence Thomas. Thomas was the 2nd African-American in U.S. history to be named to the Supreme Court. During his hearing a woman by the name of Anita Hill accused Thomas of sexually harassing her when they worked together some years before.

The film looks at how the press and politicians viewed their story. Going back a generation to examine the ways in which sexism and sexual harassment are pervasive in our social institutions, this excellent film reminds us of the historical and contemporary relevance of the #MeToo movement.

The film will be shown at 6:30 in room 12-229.

Mark Sample, Professor of History, will introduce the film.

This is open to the MCC community and general public.
