Professor Jonathan Little Wins SUNY Grant for AI Use in Instruction
Congratulations to MCC Professor Jonathan Little on winning a SUNY Innovative Instructional Technology Grant for his project, “Using AI effectively in Introductory Science and Social Science Courses.” The project aims to integrate AI into Geography as well as Geospatial Information Science and Technology (GIST) curriculums at MCC by utilizing AI to facilitate conversation and analysis of climate change and the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. The grant will also develop badging to support student success and upward mobility and to meet workforce needs.
Three MCC librarians, Dax Parasnis-Samar, Michelle Beechey, and Alice Wilson, will also play a critical role in the project. They will work with Professor Little to assist with the development of AI materials for introductory science courses.
As part of this project, Professor Little has also partnered with Steve Sturman, an instructional designer who specializes in online education and the integration of technology into teaching at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. The goal is to help him develop AI and GIS tools for the Environmental Justice curriculum.
The $14,970 SUNY grant is for the 2024 – 2025 academic year.
