MCC Wins 2011 Green Business Award

President Anne M. Kress accepted the 2011 Green Business Award at the Brighton Chamber of Commerce’s annual spring awards luncheon on May 18. The award is sponsored by the chamber and the Green Brighton Task Force.

Criteria for the award includes use of alternative energy sources on an ongoing basis; renovation or construction of buildings in a manner that is compliant with a nationally recognized “green” standard, such as the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification; implementation of an ambitious recycling/reuse program; a long-term commitment to conservation of natural resources; a program that reduces the use of energy in transportation; a business model that provides services or products that support other businesses or citizens in their efforts to reduce energy consumption or carbon emissions; and an educational program or series of programs on sustainability.

Through the efforts of MCC’s Sustainability Steering Committee and others, the College has established a framework for college-wide planning and decision making that combines environmental sustainability with fiscal responsibility.  For information regarding MCC’s sustainability efforts go to https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/Sustainability/index.htm?a-zindex.
