December Book Drive a Great Success!

The American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) sends a great big Thank You to the MCC community for the wonderful response to our December book drive. Over 175 books were delivered to James P.B. Duffy School #12 on December 19th.  The AAWCC Service Committee members Denee Martin, Jennifer Kinslow, and Catharine Ganze-Smith were greeted by the school librarian, Ms. Lorena Garmezy, and Mrs. Telles’ 6th grade classroom (see photo of AAWCC members and students).

Following our visit, Ms. Garmezy wrote, “Please express my sincere appreciation to the Service Committee and all of your members of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges at Monroe Community College.  The incredibly generous book donation by your chapter of AAWCC will truly enhance the library collection at #12 School as well as to increase the offerings in the classrooms.  As you could see from your visit, the students were incredibly excited to get new books to read.  I have been focusing my energy on cataloging books as quickly as possible since I get inquiries everyday from Mrs. Telles’ students.  As soon as a volunteer gets one book ready for circulation, it is checked out!”

Two fifth graders also wrote:

“I like to read certain books because when you read, it puts you in the author’s shoes or in a different and pleasant place.  Thank you very much for the books.”  - Jocelyn L.

“Out of all 56 schools in the district, you chose us.  Thank you!” – Monet S.
