MCC Surgical Technology Students Win Scrub Bowl!

The New York State Association of Surgical Technologists held the Spring Conference and Scrub Bowl on Saturday, April 14th in Syracuse. The MCC student team of Laurie Massaro, Christine Lippert, and Nicole Schroeder participated in the Scrub Bowl against teams from four other New York surgical technology programs (The Swedish Institute in Manhattan, Ulster County BOCES, Niagara County Community College, Onondaga Community College) and won! The competition consisted of two rounds of NBSTSA certification exam questions, 70 questions in all.

The scrub bowl team members are in the 2018 class of the MCC surgical technology program. The MCC Club for Surgical Technologists (CST) sponsored this trip with help from the Student Government Association and Jodi Oriel of the Student Life and Leadership department. Three students from the 2019 class, Laura Nashburn, Chuck Leon and Crystal Thousand, also attended this event with club advisor, Mary Seely. We are thankful for the continual support from MCC, the Nursing department, as well as, the faculty and student body of MCC that inspire our students to succeed in surgical technology and beyond!
