STEP Hosts Nearly 50 Students for Saturdays at the College program

On Saturday, January 25th, the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) welcomed nearly 50 middle and high school students to campus for our Saturdays at the College program. This immersive experience introduced our students to the MCC Optics program through a series of engaging, hands-on activities.

A special thank you to the Optics department—faculty, staff, and students—for your time, dedication, and outstanding leadership in making the day a great success. Through interactive stations led by the department, students had the opportunity to explore various aspects of Optics, including grinding and polishing glass, light demos, building telescopes, and learning about the photoelectric effect. These activities not only sparked curiosity but also introduced our students to an in-demand career field that is shaping the future.

STEP is funded by a New York State Education Department grant with the goal of increasing the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students who are prepared to enter college, while also improving their participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, and licensed professions.
