Final Exam Schedule Requests

The fall final examination week is scheduled for December 15–20, 2007.  We will be creating our examination schedule using the day/time of the courses and reviewing student schedules to create conflict-free examination times.  Keep in mind that finals week is reserved for comprehensive final exams only.  All other exams should be scheduled on the last day of classes.

Our computing department has created a new electronic form, located on the Faculty Services menu in Banner Self Service, for requesting final exams.  Each instructor, wishing to schedule a comprehensive final exam, must complete this form.  The request(s) for exams will automatically load to Banner, once submitted.  Please provide this information no later than Friday, September 21, 2007.   Any requests submitted after this date may be assigned a Saturday exam period as it is very difficult to add sections to the scheduling process once the program has begun to run.  (We basically must start the process all over again from the beginning in order to schedule late requests)  We plan to have a completed examination schedule by October 31st.

Departmental exams only (same exam for ALL sections of the same subject/course) should be submitted by department chairs/secretaries, via Excel spreadsheet attachment to an e-mail, listing the following information only:

CRN (Course Registration Number)– check carefully
Subject
Course
Section
Course Title
Instructor Name

Please check your submissions carefully, especially CRN numbers.  The CRN is loaded into Banner.  If that is incorrect, the wrong section or no section will be flagged for an exam.

Though faculty members have requested that multiple sections be scheduled on the same day/same time in the past, in order to create a conflict free student exam schedule, these requests will not be met.  This may mean that multiple versions of tests will need to be written, to avoid unfair advantages to those students scheduled for later exams.

Special requests for final exams will be considered if the faculty member is willing to offer his/her exam(s) on the Saturday of final exam week (Dec. 15th).

The fall exam schedule has four exam periods scheduled each day.  Their times will be as follows:

            PERIOD l                               7:45am - 9:45am
            PERIOD 2                              10:00am - 12:00pm
            LUNCH BREAK                   12:00pm - 12:30pm
            PERIOD 3                              12:30pm - 2:30pm
            PERIOD 4                               2:45pm - 4:45pm

Ending the final examination day at 5pm will eliminate the problem of conflicts with evening classes.  Evening and Saturday courses may give their exams in the same room in which they hold classes.  Evening classes (classes starting after 5pm) should schedule their own exams with the students enrolled in their courses.  All other examinations during final exam week must be scheduled through the Registration & Records Office.
