Just a a reminder that the Damon City Campus will host a professional development opportunity for all faculty and staff on Friday, Nov. 10, featuring Dr. William E. Sedlacek presenting on “Employing Noncognitive Variables in the Retention of Students of Color.”
Dr. Sedlacek is professor of counseling and personnel services at the University of Maryland’s College of Education and assistant director of the Counseling Center. He has authored more than one hundred articles on the topic of non-cognitive assessment and is one of the nation’s leading authorities in the field. His latest book, “Beyond the Big Test: Noncognitive Assessment in Higher Education,” addresses a noncognitive assessment method that can be used in concert with standardized tests for college and university admissions. The assessment measures what students know by evaluating what they can do and how they deal with a wide range of problems in different contexts. Registration and breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. in the Fourth Floor Atrium and the presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session, will start at 9:30 a.m. in the Lecture Hall (Room 4151). Seating capacity: 125.
