MCC will host the ITC audioconference entitled "Using RSS to Facilitate Learning Communities" scheduled for Tuesday, May 16 from 2:00-3:00 pm. in the Board Lounge. Dr. Norman Garrett, Professor at the School of Business, Eastern Illinois University, will demonstrate how educators can foster learning communities where students create content and share it with each other using simple readily-available RSS software tools. Useful for any academic discipline, this model allows for the syndication and distribution of student-generated content at a low cost and requires little student or instructor technical expertise. Garrett will discuss the technical concepts of RSS, aggregation, and syndication, along with the pedagogical framework, and demonstrate some practical examples. The method is flexible and allows inclusion of all types of RSS media, including blogs, focused Web sites, content aggregators, Podcasts, and Vodcasts (video-on-demand). It also allows students to stay in contact with each other using whatever technologies they have at their disposal.
