Rochester AmeriCorps Welcomes its 22 Class of Members

Rochester AmeriCorps is proud to be hosting a diverse corps of 46 members for the 2015-2016 term of service. Members will undergo an intensive and engaging two-week training starting on Monday Sept. 14th at the Damon City Campus that will prepare them for their service term. Members serve a year in working with students in the Rochester City School District, pre-collegiate programs, and educational organizations to support academic engagement and social-emotional health and well-being.

Drawing upon a framework of educational equity and social justice members will provide unique services at their sites supporting a range of activities and initiatives. Activities may include coordinating and facilitating enrichment opportunities, providing academic and behavioral supports, tutoring in all subject areas and all grade levels, engaging in college / career preparation services, facilitating small groups, working to improve student attendance, and contributing to positive school climate.

Members build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and community members throughout their term while gaining valuable career skills and experiences. As stated by a program alumnus, "The positive impact on my life, both personally and professionally, is an experience I couldn't have gained anywhere else. Being a part of the community that is AmeriCorps... made me a better human being."

We are excited to continue to build upon our partnerships with the city school district and educational programs and look forward to an amazing year of growth, collaboration, and student engagement.

Rochester AmeriCorps is sponsored by Monroe Community College.
