Last week, at the annual SUNY Career Development Organization Conference in Port Jefferson, NY, the SCORE Program received an Award for Excellence in Programming. This award is in recognition of the development and implementation of a new/or innovative program among Career Development Offices in the State University of New York.
The SCORE Program is collaboration between the Athletics Department and the Career and Transfer Center. The Program was created to provide student-athletes with tools to help them develop successful academic, career and transfer plans. This population has a unique set of challenges which can impede their success. Through a series of mandatory team workshops student-athletes learn more about themselves and their team mates by taking and understanding StrengthsQuest. They also attend workshops on the NCAA transfer rules and regulations, study skills, scholarships, SUNY applications and staying healthy.
