Progress Update: Labor-Management Subcommittee on Faculty Advising

The Labor-Management Subcommittee on Faculty Advising is actively working to address FA Contract Article 47, Section I, Advisement. Under the contract, all full-time faculty are assigned a caseload of 30 students to advise. However, with the implementation of MCC’s reimagined Integrated Advising Model, student advising primary responsibilities are transitioning to Student Success Coaches. Student Success Coaches provide holistic and proactive advising support to their assigned caseloads.

The subcommittee is evaluating alternative opportunities for faculty to fulfill this contractual requirement in alignment with the new model. Recommendations are expected soon and will include activities that are both meaningful and reflective of best practices that align with the College's mission as it relates to student engagement.

At this time, faculty are not expected to take on any additional duties until the subcommittee's recommendations are fully reviewed and finalized. In the meantime, faculty are encouraged to continue supporting and advising students.

The Labor-Management Committee will review the subcommittee’s recommendations and will develop an MOU to formally update the contract language and support the new advising structure moving forward. The FA membership will then have an opportunity to review and vote on the MOU. Until an agreement is reached and approved by the FA membership, faculty are not expected to engage in any substitute activities.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through this process.
