GOVERNOR PATERSON DIRECTS FLAGS TO BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF

Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday, March 27, 2009, in honor of Rome, New York resident Marine Lance Corporal Daniel J. Geary, who died on Friday, March 20, 2009, in Farah Province, Afghanistan, and Fort Drum-based Private First Class (PFC) Adam J. Hardt, who died on Sunday, March 22, 2009, in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Geary, a member of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, died while supporting combat operations.

PFC Hardt, a member of the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum, New York, died in a non-combat incident.

“On behalf of the residents of New York, I wish to express our condolences to the family, friends and fellow service members of Lance Corporal Daniel Geary and Private First Class Adam Hardt,” said Governor Paterson. “Both men served our country with respect, dignity and honor. We are forever grateful for their service.”

Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor and tribute to our state’s service members who are killed in action.
