Passing of Retiree Sharron E. Waide '97, Educational Technology Services
Monroe Community College was recently notified of the passing of MCC alumna and retiree Sharron E. Waide '97 (Educational Technology Services) on March 25, 2019. Sharron is survived by her husband, Harold, three children, 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In 1987, Sharron earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from SUNY Geneseo where she also studied computer science. She taught in the New York state prison system and became an adjunct instructor and tutor at Genesee Community College, specializing in computer systems technology, business and math.
In 1996, Sharron came to MCC to earn a computer information technology degree and pursue a second career. While earning her degree, Sharron began to work part time for MCC as a computer lab consultant and student supervisor in the Electronic Learning Center. In 1998, she became a technical assistant, responsible for supervising student staff, assisting students in learning centers, and providing hardware/software support. In 1999, she broadened her service to the College by becoming an adjunct instructor in the Office and Computer Programs Department. Soon after, she was promoted to the Damon City Campus Learning Resources coordinator role. She retired from this position in 2010.
Sharron drove 100 miles from Wayland to MCC each workday. Colleagues considered her a "go-to person" who genuinely cared about students. She played the violin and was a member of the MCC Toastmasters Club. Sharron and her husband were active in their church and enjoyed singing and performing music. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Memorial contributions in Sharron's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of your choice.
